An amazing turnout

The Natural & Organic Products Exhibition proves that the industry is recession proof

Post Show Press Release 16 July 2009

This year’s show staged at the Johannesburg Coca-Cola Dome surpassed all expectations. Cape Town has always drawn more visitors’ year on year with 15,000 last October, but this was eclipsed last month when 26,000 visitors experienced the 120 very unique natural & organic exhibitors. This was a 370% growth over the last Johannesburg show and that in the time of South Africa’s first recession in 14 years.

The audience was surprised to see so many very different product lines, and how sophisticated the industry has become. So many everyday products have now converted to organic. Business conducted on the stands was so brisk that the automated tellers at the centre ran out of money over the weekend.

The highlights of this year’s show was the No KaK fashion design competition presented by the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) which was presented in daily fashion shows on the Lifestyle Stage.

Another surprise was the “Green Home” section, which attracted the most interest. Visitors to the Natural & Organic Products Exhibition are the very people looking to green their home. We were very pleased to have Eskom involved in the show on such an interactive level. Many visitors were able to get real answers from well-informed representatives. One solar panel company had orders and enquiries for more than a million Rands.

This has prompted the organisers to launch the Green Home Exhibition, which will be run as a separate exhibition within the Natural & Organic Products Exhibition.

The next show is scheduled for Cape Town’s International Convention Centre from 19-21 February 2010.
